NUR 212 - Maternal and Child Health Concepts (4 credit hours) Offered in Fall Term (3-0-3) Designed to further develop nursing concepts within the domains of knowledge, skills and attitudes, and provide foundational preparation for the provision of nursing care to the individual with maternal and child health needs. Emphasis is placed on concepts of reproduction, mood/affect, health behaviors, growth and development, family, health-wellness-illness, oxygenation, communication, caring interventions, managing care, safety and advocacy. Instruction and supervised clinical experience provide ways in which to implement nursing interactions with family during the childbearing period and women’s health as well as those of the child from birth through adolescence. Emphasis is on maternal and newborn health, women’s health, children with special needs, wellness of children and adolescence in the hospital and community environments.
