The NCMC practical nursing certificate will prepare students to begin practice as an entry level licensed practical nurse. Practical Nurses are valued members of the health team and practice under the supervision of a registered nurse and practice in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, community health, and physicians’ offices. They provide direct care for stable individuals with acute and chronic illnesses.
 

Program student learning outcomes from successful completion of this certificate include: 

  • Patient-Centered Care: The student will demonstrate nursing practices that acknowledge the dignity and worth of the individual and family through caring interventions within the interpersonal relationship. 
     
  • Safe Patient Care: The student will integrate critical thinking and evidence-based practice in providing safe, competent care to clients.
     
  • Multidisciplinary Care and Teamwork: The student will participate in nursing and multidisciplinary teams to work collaboratively in the contemporary healthcare setting to achieve quality care.
     
  • Patient Teaching: The student will demonstrate a teaching relationship with clients, which requires continuous learning, refining, and integrating professional behaviors and values.
     
  • Accessing Information and Evaluating Outcomes: The student will demonstrate the ability to use informatics to evaluate patient outcomes and improve patient care.
     
  • Accountability and Responsibility: The student will demon evidence of preparation for clinical and direct patient care experiences.


Prerequisites

Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher with no grade less than a C.
Anatomy and Physiology Coursework must be completed within the last five years.
