DHY 160 - Pharmacology for Dental Hygiene (2 Credit Hours) Offered in Winter Terms (2-0-0) This course introduces fundamental concepts of pharmacology as applied to dental hygiene practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding drug classifications, mechanisms of action, and the pharmacologic agents most encountered in dental care, including analgesics, anesthetics, antibiotics, cardiovascular drugs, and medications for systemic conditions. Students will develop the ability to interpret prescription and over-the-counter medications, identify potential oral and systemic side effects, and apply this knowledge to clinical dental hygiene care planning.
