DHY 150 - Periodontics I (3 Credit Hours) Offered in Winter Terms (3-0-0) This foundational course introduces the principles of periodontology with a focus on the etiology, diagnosis, and initial management of periodontal diseases as they relate to dental hygiene practice. Students will explore the structure and function of the periodontium, disease processes, microbial influences, and host response. Emphasis is placed on risk assessment, prevention, early recognition, Staging and Grading, and nonsurgical treatment of periodontal conditions through evidence-based care. This course provides biomedical and clinical knowledge essential for patient-centered decision-making in oral health care.
