ENG 280 - Speculative Fiction (3 credit hours)

An examination of literary and cinematic works that explore alternate or imaginary worlds in the context of science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, gothic fiction, horror, and related genres. As speculative fiction interrogates through these imagined worlds contemporary social, economic, and political issues, works will be paired with theoretical perspectives that critically frame speculative fiction in relation to questions of justice, gender, race, class, colonialism, and ecology.
