ENGR 247 - Mechanics of Materials (3 credit hours) Offered in Variable Terms (3-0-0) Introduction to the function of solid materials when subjected to loads commonly encountered in engineering applications. Topics covered include: the definition of stress and strain; axially loaded members; shear and bending moment diagrams; members in torsion; bending stresses and deformations of beams; shear stresses and deformations of beams; members subjected to combinations of loadings; transformation of stresses and strains; and introduction of theories of failure.
